By Sam Milbrath | 2 years ago | No Comments

HootTip IconHosting an event? Planning for an upcoming campaign? Targeting your audience abroad? There are plenty of occasions where scheduling social messages in advance comes in handy. That’s why we’ve made scheduling social messages in HootSuite easy, so you can focus on maximizing your social presence and outreach. To get you acquainted, or just to give you a refresher, here’s our latest #HootTip: How to Schedule, AutoSchedule, View and Edit a Pending Post.

Scheduling Social Messages

Social doesn’t sleep, but you do. So whether you’re a startup, mid-size business or a global corporation, there are always times when you can’t be on your mobile device or computer to be active online. To stay on top of your growing social audience, sprinkle in some scheduled messages and let HootSuite share the load.

Here’s How:

  1. Facebook, LinkedIn, Google+, Twitter? Personal or business? All of the above? Pick what social channels and profiles you want to send your message out to by selecting them in the profile picker.

  2. Type your social message in the compose box.

  3. Click the calendar icon in the bottom right of the compose box.

  4. In the calendar drop down set the date and time you want to send your message (double check AM/PM)

  5. Click the Send Now button. Poof! Message scheduled.

AutoSchedule Your Social Messages

Can’t decide when to schedule your social? Want to spread out a handful of Tweets? Use HootSuite’s AutoSchedule feature to schedule your messages for you, based on optimal tweet times. We’ll help you spread out your messaging to make the most of your content.

Here’s How:

  1. Just like scheduling a message, choose your social networks first.

  2. Type your social message in the compose box.

  3. Click the calendar icon.

  4. In the drop down menu, the AutoSchedule feature is set to OFF. Turn it ON.

  5. Press AutoSchedule. Boom. Done.

Viewing and Editing Your Scheduled Message

Where’d all those scheduled messages go? Want to edit any of them after the fact or delete one altogether? Don’t worry, we’re one step ahead of you.

Here’s How:

  1. On the left-hand side of your dashboard, Click the Publisher icon.

  2. Click the Scheduled button

  3. In here, you can view and edit any message that you’ve scheduled simply by hovering over the message and clicking the edit icon.

  4. This will open up an Edit Scheduled Message window where you can make and save your changes.

I'm losing my mind. I see where I can to into settings and set number of day and days of the week. I have autoschedule on, and have tried to post to 3 x per day on a twitter post, but it only publishes once. What am I doing wrong or is there a link that describes how to send popular posts more than one time or more than once a day?

Hootsuite_Help_Desk moderator 5pts

Hi seeksboston26mi,

I'm sorry to hear you were having some trouble with the auto scheduling feature! To clarify, are these the steps that you are taking to schedule:

Just to make sure we're on the same page, any message that is scheduled, will only be posted once. The AutoSchedule feature doesn't at present schedule the same message to go out multiple times per day. This is because the majority of social networks that we integrate with don't allow duplicate posts within the same day. Instead, with your current settings, you can AutoSchedule different and unique posts, and after that daily limit, each subsequent post will roll over to the following day.

Auto-schedule essentially enables the Hootsuite dashboard to calculate, based on our private algorithm, the most optimal time to post your scheduled message. Thereby your message is not being manually scheduled by yourself for a predisposed time and is being "auto-scheduled" to a time that is determined by our algorithm.

If you are still experiencing trouble posting, please try to reconnect your accounts via the steps here:

I hope this helps!  Please feel free to reach out if you have any further questions or concerns.

Hello - for some reason on my HootSuite the past scheduled posts aren't showing up.  For the week before, I see all the posts, but for some reason my recent posts are showing up. I'm clicking the past scheduled link on the left, but nothing is changing. This is making me worry that my content isn't being posted!

When I use the Scheduler to schedule a post, and I have selected 4 platforms to post this message (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and G+) do all of them have to post at the same time? If I wanted Facebook to post at 8 am and Twitter to go at 1:00 Pm--do I have to schedule them separately? (copy and paste the same message in 4 times to have 4 different times it is scheduled? thanks!

I schedule posts to FB account through hoote but don't know why when they post say:  Posted by HootSuite Is there a way to change this?

Hootsuite_Help_Desk moderator 5pts

@Darlene  Great question! Facebook has removed the 3rd party ‘via’ tags from status updates to Facebook Pages. At this time, Facebook has not changed the functionality for Profiles and Groups and the 'via HootSuite' will remain visible.

I hope this helps clarify! I do apologize for any inconvenience this causes.

Hi Bree,

Thank you for reaching out to us! My name is Amy from the help team and I'm happy to answer your question.

At this time, this is not currently possible. If you would like someone else to be able to see the messages you have scheduled, they will need to either log into your Hootsuite account or they would need to have their own Hootsuite account and be a team member of the organization on your Pro account.

Once logged into your account or their own account that is a member of your Pro organization, they can view your Publisher or they can add a "Scheduled Tweets" stream to their own dashboards.

Please see here for more info on managing a Pro plan:

If you have any further questions Bree, please feel free to contact us on Twitter at @hootsuite_help.

I'd like to be able to show people my scheduled posts while they're in the queue, but before they're posted.  I'd like to be able to share it on the web for ppl without a HS account.  I'd just like certain people to see which posts are coming, even if they don't want to learn to use HS.  Can you think of a way that would be possible?

Hello admin, i have a question about scheduled tweets:

Should i log on to my HootSuite to post the tweet i scheduled before? Or i just wait for the magic to happen? Because i use my HootSuite on my iPad (wifi). I am afraid that i will not get an internet connection when the time comes.

Hootsuite_Help_Desk moderator 5pts

Hi there!

You can wait for the magic to happen!

Once a post has been scheduled through HootSuite, it will remain in the queue and post automatically at the scheduled time whether you are logged in or not.

Hope that helps to clarify!

henrimarc 5pts

Is there a way for me to show, in the editor, both past posts (green) AND future programmed posts (blue) ?

HootMatt moderator 5pts

@henrimarc Good question. In the publisher screen, you can toggle between viewing Scheduled and Past Scheduled messages, but as far as I know, you can't see them together in the same view. I'm sure our development team would be interested to hear this suggestion. The easiest way to get their attention is to share your idea at http://feedback.hootsuite.com/ Cheers!

AnastasiosKioulachoglou 5pts

Hi there,

very short question.  I'm new in Hootsuite: is there a possibility to have a posting plan in Hootsuite? What  I mean is the following:

Page X: posts should go out every day at 08:00 am and 02:00 pm.

Page Y: posts should go out every day at 09:00 am and 04:00 pm.  etc.

Is there somewhere where I can fix this schedule or I have to always manually give the day and time I want a post to be sent?

Thank you for your help

Is it possible to edit Facebook posts via Hootsuite after they are posted?

Hootsuite_Help_Desk moderator 5pts

@Mies02 Hello,
Great question, I understand how this would be useful. It is not currently possible to edit Facebook posts through HootSuite but please feel free to suggest the idea over on our Feedback Forum: http://ow.ly/qYXM7.

Hi there,

i cannot see my scheduled messages. I have the publisher button yet there isn't a scheduled messages icon?

Hootsuite_Help_Desk moderator 5pts

@YasminLockey Hi Yasmin,

We'd love to look into this with you. On the web dashboard, you should be taken to a view of your scheduled messages by clicking on the Publisher icon from the menu on the left. If this is not what you're seeing, shoot us a tweet @HootSuite_Help and we'll dig in for your specific case.

sasafraz 5pts

i realized i can't tag people or things when i am posting via hootsuite.. Is this normal?

glenwoodmom 5pts

Hi, I have been scheduling tweets using the instructions posted and I have only had success 2 times out of the attempts at different time through the past month. I always select email me when sent and I check in about 30-60 after it should have been sent only to see it in the publisher tweets scheduled to send. And yes I am gettig the am pm right

HootSuite_Help moderator 5pts

@glenwoodmom Hi there! From what you're describing, you might not have the correct timezone selected for your HootSuite account. To check and possibly correct this, go to Settings > Account then scroll down until you see the time zone dropdown menu. Select the appropriate time zone then click Save Account Info.

If you continue to see issues with this, you can always reach us @HootSuite_Help and we'd be happy to further investigate.

LindyL 5pts

I have been trying to post pictures via the Auto Schedule function, but they don't seem to be uploading to my social media channels, only the text is being uploaded to my messages on each of the channels.  Can you please let me know if I can upload pictures through Hootsuite or is it only text messages.  Thank you

HootSuite_Help moderator 5pts

@LindyL You should definitely be able to upload and schedule images through HootSuite [via http://ow.ly/o6W83 ]. If these steps aren't working for you as hoped, please let us know via @HootSuite_Help and we'll gladly investigate with you!

Anne 5pts

In your video, where does the number 80 stand for next to the twitter icon on the bottom? Thanks

jordanbehan moderator 5pts

@Anne Great question! It appears after the social networks (both Twitter, in this instance) are added, and then the messages is pasted in. 80 is the number of available characters remaining of the 140 that Twitter allows. (so the message in the video must be about 60 characters or so). Hope this helps!
