How to use WordPress with HootSuite
Add some punch to your social media experience by integrating WordPress with HootSuite. It’s simple and hassle-free. Like an uppercut, HootSuite makes blogging that much more powerful.
Watch the tutorial video above and see why owls are the Bruce Lee of the bird world.
Initial support is for blogs hosted on WordPress.com, but support for self-hosted WordPress blogs is on the horizon.
UPDATE: We’ve had a number of users report that when they try to add their WordPress.com account into HootSuite it pulls back the wrong blog name and avatar. The cause for this has been identified and WordPress has resolved the issue for us. In case anyone is concerned, there was no way for users to post messages to the wrong blog, it was only an issue with the returned display name and avatar. Everything should be working fine now.

That was pretty cool. Can you put media (e.g. photos or video) in the post?
ALSO… what did you use to put the video tutorial together? My 8y.o. daughter understood it… which is saying something for the elegant simplicity of it.

Always handy when you developer guys come up with nifty tools that will help me improve my Social Media Marketing Plus content

Is this only for free WordPress.com blogs or also for self-hosted WordPress.org blogs?
I Loovvee Hootsuite!
[Reply]
I was using other services to the same effect until now, but I’m pleased to see it available on HootSuite too.
For the readers/watchers of this, a tip:
Trust me, this is POWERFUL!
In all my SEO efforts, I use bookmarking and content syndication quite a lot.
Nice new feature, HootSuite…

Thought this was a great idea, but tried to add my wordpress blog and instead I ended up with someone else’s being brought in, tried again and the same thing happened again (4 more times, not always the same person). Gave up… hope it gets fixed as it’s a great feature (and will get me blogging again!)

Well I have tried to put my hootsuite wordpress blog on and for some reason it thinks my credentials are wrong?
Credentials are right so any thoughts?
[Reply]
Excellent! Hootsuite gets better and better. I’m looking forward to using the Wordpress integration.
[Reply]
Holy guacamole! All that AND Carl Douglas! Hootsuite is awesome. But the app should be free for my iPhone!
[Reply]
I’m not sure why I’d want to do this at all. Can’t do tags/categories/media/etc. Also, you should clarify that this is Wordpress.com and not self hosted WordPress. A big difference.
I was hoping for automatic pulling of my feeds to my twitter account or something creative to help my blog be seen more on my twitter account. That would be a cool integration. As far as putting links to my blog on my twitter account, how about allowing me to post the link multiple times over a certain interval. No service has provided that benefit yet.
[Reply]
This will link to a WordPress blog using a wordpress account, but what about WordPress blogs using other hosting?
[Reply]
Looks like it only supports wordpress.com blogs. What about self-hosted wordpress blogs?
[Reply]
Gotta admit, this will be a killer feature once support for self-hosted blogs is added in…
[Reply]
I love this new feature but it doesn’t appear to work for those of us who are hosting our own word press blog. Maybe this functionality will be added in the future.

Awesome! And can’t beat a little Kung Fu to bop along with while watching a demo. Nice touch, looking forward to trying…

Must agree that support for self hosted WordPress.org blogs is a must!
Just have to wait ……………………….

What I have found very powerful is using Hootsuite in conjunction with ping.fm
Create your ping.fm account, register accounts for some of the social networks listed in ping.fm
Then, in Hootsuite, create a profile for your ping.fm account.
Next, use the rss/atom feature in Hootsuite to automatically pull in the feed from your blog (yes, for self-hosted WP blogs). You can tell Hootsuite to periodically check for new blog post.
Assign the feed to post to your ping.fm account and ta-da! By having Hootsuite send the blog feed to your ping.fm account, it will then post to the various social networks (including Twitter) in one nice clean process.

@Jane
same thing here
[Reply]
@Jane
Same here. Have tried it many, many times. Even leaving the password blank, it comes up with someone else’s blog. Must have tried 20 times now, and got 10-15 different blogs.
[Reply]
ok, looks like its a Web Browser problem, tried with google chrome and not worked, but with Firefox it worked. Thanks
[Reply]
Looks good, support for self hosted WordPress blogs would make our day — we love HootSuite!
[Reply]
Wow way to go HootSuite – this looks like a great feature and a real time saver. I like others have a self hosted WordPress blog so I can’t test it yet – but look forward to giving it a go when you make it available for the self-hosted crew.
Keep up the great work!
Phil

The last paragraph is a bummer! Why start with WordPress.com? Real bloggers self host!
[Reply]
Posterous has been doing this for quite a while, including self-hosted Wordpress sites, AND it pushes audio/photos/video to Wordpress blogs, AND it pushes content to your blog’s Wordpress categories.
[Reply]
@Jane
Same thing happened to me on multiple occasions. Hope Hoot fixes is as I would LOVE to be able to post my WP blogs from the suite.
[Reply]
This is a fantastic new feature. I can’t wait for you to add it for self-hosted WP blogs.
[Reply]
Very cool. I can’t wait for the self hosted platform, but I am very happy with the auto RSS feed from my blog and those blogs I watch to my twitter account.
[Reply]
Tweeted this, because it’s great…but it doesn’t work with Hootlet! I can’t live without Hootlet..so is this a further development or have I done something wrong?
[Reply]
Nope – can’t get this to work via HootSuite either! Pity.
[Reply]
Waiting for self hosted, but the fact that this can be done is great!
[Reply]
MMh.. i will have to try it out and see how it works, i am still having problems with the automatic feed and facebook pages!! i don’t know how this one will work!!
[Reply]
Here’s an idea — once you get self-hosted WordPress blogs. Add support for Ning blogs too!
[Reply]
I’m so excited for this! I manage two blogs and many profiles. Hootsuite is my home! I never have to leave it.
[Reply]
I agree with Anna, Hootsuite is now my home.
[Reply]
Seems a pretty suefyul tool
[Reply]
@John Lynn
John, you can already pull in a feed with Hootsuite and have been able to for a long time. Just go to settings and then the RSS/Atom tab to set it up.
[Reply]
@Hootsuite. If the service is only for Wordpress.com and not self-hosted Wordpress blogs that should be made clear in your marketing and promotions. I haven’t tried it yet. Hopefully the comments are wrong.
[Reply]
Hmmm…. From this video, all it makes me wonder is why in the world would I would want to write a blog post in HootSuite? As it is, the screen is just about ok for 140 character posts, but for actual articles? Typos? Formatting issues? Don’t get me wrong. I LOVE HootSuite. I love the way it integrates with all my social media, including my FB pages. I love being able to schedule different updates to different accounts, all from one place. I also totally love the stats feature. VERY useful. I consider myself to be pretty forward-seeing, but something’s missing here for me with the WordPress integration. Any way to demo HOW this would be an advantage?
[Reply]
Oh… and just read that it doesn’t work for self-hosted WP blogs anyway, so, I’ll just watch this space. Thanks, Hootie! I do love you. xxx
[Reply]
I am enjoying this feature, but noticed that the embed codes that you can usually use via an e-mail post are not able to be used. Did anyone else notice this?
[Reply]
New blogger features working great. Brilliant work!
All we need now is a Windows Mobile Hootsuite app.
[Reply]
I just have to add my $.02 it will be great when this works for self-hosted blogs! Great job! It’s a nice first step.
[Reply]
As reported by other HS users, after I registered my WordPress details in HS I saw all my blog posts, but also one post by someone else (although the web link to that post was invalid). Hope this is just a temporary glitch.
[Reply]
I think this can be done is great!
[Reply]
I had almost lost the interest in blogging altogether because of all the separate places I stop on the way, but Hootsuite, you may have just given me a new way to keep all my ideas in one place. I love the way this works!
[Reply]
How exciting! I love the new apps and stuff you guys keep coming up with. Can’t wait to use it.
[Reply]
wow it’s very nice.
waiting for blogger integration feature.

Interesting, Added WordPress post ability is genius
[Reply]
この機能はGood!早く自分のwordpressへpostできるようにしてほしいです。
[Reply]
Excellent. But, does it work for stand-alone wordpress blog? My blog is: http://www.namazaliev.com, but I cannot use hootsuite to update it.
Thank you!
[Reply]
One of the main advantages with this new feature is the integration of the social features that wordpress.com has. You can now follow the blogs you follow on wordpress.com in a column in Hootsuite. Thats really great. You can actually reblog, quote or comment on the blog posts you follow. That’s the main thing with the new wordpress.com Twitter API.

A shame this is only for wordpress.com. Any plans to enable it for self-hosted blogs?
[Reply]
I agree with Lynn. I wouldn’t use this to post 140 characters TO my blog from Hootsuite.
I think it’s more powerful the other way around. Feeding in my blog posts FROM my blog, into Hootsuite and then feeding that into ping.fm for dispersing through other social networks, including Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.
[Reply]
Love your “Bruce Lee” owl–can I get it as wallpaper?
[Reply]
@Patty Gale
What a great and valuable comment! Thank you so much. I was about to go to bed that I saw your comment. I followed your recommendation and forgot that I wanted to sleep. I’ve been looking for a method to incorporate my blog with those social sites in order to reduce the silly manual labor on the web. Now, I should wait and see how it works.
[Reply]
new function on hootsuites so cool. I love it
[Reply]
Get on the Wordpress.org bandwagon! This would be so cool. Can’t wait!
[Reply]
Did not work for me on any of my blogs. I’ll try another day.
[Reply]
will try it, look awesome…

This is definitely what’s needed. Then, Hootsuite really howls………….!

When someone does a LOT of WordPress, they’re likely using WordPress MU – can’t wait to see that integration.

What a great idea. For quick blogs it’s ideal. Superb. Hootsuite definitely the business.
[Reply]
looking forward to self-hosted wordpress integration. thanks!
[Reply]
can you do anything for blogger blogs??
[Reply]
Cool! I am looking forward to the self-hosted Wordpress support.
[Reply]
@imran
I think this is because you (and I) tried to login with a self hosted Wordpress acct instead of one hosted at wordpress.com.
[Reply]
Can anyone tell me if they sorted out the wordpress problem yet?
It still won’t take my log in credentials!?!?

@Lynn Serafinn
Lynn, I just started doing this technique. I entered my blog RSS in the RSS/Atom feed tab of HS, and added my ping.fm.
I posted to my blog, but didn’t see my post in my Twitter account. So I figured it doesn’t work. Did you get it to work?
[Reply]
HootSuite keeps telling me my credentials are wrong, but they are not wrong. Ideas?

@John Lynn
I kind of agree with you here, John. I also micro-blog on Posterous, Tumblr & Typepad Micro, and they do a much better job on this…for now.
[Reply]
It would be actually great if Hootsuite did the reverse, and that is when creating a blogpost on Wordpress to push it out on HS.

Hi Louis,
You can do this – just add your WP RSS feed and choose which Twitter (or other) account to push it out through and voila, your blog will auto-magically Twitter with each new post.
[Reply]
@Roger Amen! Hootsuite for Windows Mobile. A web app would be fine with me. I just want to be able to post to multiple social networks via my sucky Windows Mobile phone which I will not be replacing any time soon, no matter how much it sucks.
