USA Twitter Trends of the Week, Vol 84

With hundreds of millions of daily tweets and search inquiries in the United States alone, Twitter is rich with conversations and news updates. Our USA Twitter Trends of the Week captures the top trending discussions and breaks them down for you.

Overall Twitter Trend of the Week: Thanksgiving

The last Thursday of November brings along with it some entertaining – and delicious – annual traditions. The Twittersphere exploded this week with Tweets about cranberry sauce and turkey to parades and football. These annual activities (which millions of Americans partake in each year) are all wonderful traditions which give us the chance to put down our smart phones and laptops, and spend quality time with friends and family. We’re hoping everyone got to enjoy some delicious turkey and take time to appreciate the things that you are grateful for… even if it is for only one day of the year.

Top Entertainment: American Music Awards

The AMA’s were back again, with their annual show full of A-list celebs and ridiculous performances. Twitterers were all about it, since the winner of each award was based entirely off votes on the popular social networking site. Tweets were flying after performances by Miley Cyrus, Cher, Lady Gaga and R.Kelly put on (you’ll have to see it for yourself). Some of the big winners for the evening were Taylor Swift (Artist of the Year), Rihanna (Icon Award) and Justin Timberlake (Favorite Male Artist -Pop/Rock).

Take a look at Miley’s performance of Wrecking Ball:

Honorable Mention for Top Entertainment: Wrecking Ball (Chatroulette Version)

We couldn’t talk about Entertainment trends of the week and leave out this viral video. Although the world has surely had its fill of Miley Cyrus Wrecking Ball spoofs, this Chatroulette version by YouTube personality Steve Kardynal is something a little different. His video on YouTube has racked up over 31 million views since he put it up TWO DAYS AGO.

This parody may make you cringe, may make you laugh… but will absolutely make you smile:

Top History:  JFK

Tweets were published across the country in remembrance of the day JFK was assassinated. It was 50 years ago that the then President of the United States was shot while riding in a motorcade in Dallas. Tweets speculating on who was responsible for his death were sent, as well as many conspiracy theories and questions of what the world would be like if we hadn’t lost him. After looking at many different tweets it seems like the entertainment world has solved the case: was the assassination was done by the X-Men mutant, Magneto?

Top Sports: Patriots

This past weekend the New England Patriots took the win over the Denver Broncos with a field goal during OT. After being down 24-0 at the half, Tom Brady and the Patriots picked themselves back up and took to the field, winning the game with a little bit of help from Mother Nature. The freezing temperatures and high winds were a major plus for the Pats (who are used to playing in the cold) as the Broncos just couldn’t hold onto the ball.

This amazing comeback and exciting game was more than enough for Twitterers to get on their phones, computers and tablets to tweet about the excitement.
