Mastodon
Mastodon is an open-source, decentralized social media platform. Like Discord, Mastodon users create or join their own servers, known as instances. Mastodon posts are called toots* and are displayed in chronological order in a feed very similar to Twitter’s layout.
Platform founder Eugen Rochko has said that he built Mastodon as a Twitter alternative centered around “smaller, tight-knit communities” that are less likely to encourage toxic behavior. The platform is crowd-funded and ad-free.
*Ok, they used to be called toots.
