On May 10th, Facebook announced a new initiative meant to promote more informed sharing of news articles on the platform. The company is now testing a solution designed to encourage users to read articles before sharing them with their network.

Users who are part of the test will see a prompt if they try to share a link to a news article they haven’t opened. The prompt will encourage them to open the link and read the article before sharing it.
