Earlier this week, TikTok announced the launch of Live Subscription, a monthly subscription that will give users greater access to their favorite creators.
Live Subscription will start this month as invite-only but is expected to become available worldwide in the coming months. The goal of Live Subscription is to help creators earn more money while growing and engaging their communities.
Those that subscribe to certain creators will receive:
- Subscriber Badges: Badges shown next to their name on their profile and upgraded over time.
- Custom Emotes: Exclusive emotes custom-designed by creators to use during Live Sessions. These are designed to “bring the community together and make your sessions more spirited,” TikTok says in a blog post.
- Subscriber-Only Chat: A chat space where creators and their subscribers can connect.
To use the Live Subscription feature, creators must be over 18 and have at least 1,000 followers. Users also must be over 18 to purchase a subscription and to send or receive Coins and Gifts. Creators are not allowed to solicit gifts or offer incentives for gifting.
The move is part of TikTok’s efforts to diversify monetization opportunities for creators. Earlier this month, TikTok announced that they’re creating an advertising revenue share program with creators, public figures and media publications with at least 100,000 followers.
Before that, TikTok launched Creator Next, to give creators access to the TikTok Creator Fund, TikTok Creator Marketplace, Live Gifts, Video Gifts and Tips.
