Two Top Brands Deliver Community Building Secrets, #CMHootUp Recap

By Connor Meakin | 9 months ago | No Comments

On January 27th,  HootSuite hosted a select group of Vancouver based social media and community management practitioners for our first #CMHootUp. Over 100 local industry professionals made their way into HootSuite HQ to mingle, meet new friends and learn from our two keynote speakers from Vega and Mountain Equipment Co-op.

The theme for #CMHootUp was ‘Building Community Using Visual Storytelling’. Jessica and Sam from Vega kicked the evening off with a snapshot of how Vega built a powerful brand following around plant-based nutrition. They dove into the history and power of successful storytelling, and the pivotal role of trust in building community.

Graeme from MEC entertained the crowd with anecdotes and stories about his experience using social to launch MEC’s largest rebrand in their 40 year history. Complete with new logo, mission and strategy, Graeme talked about the public’s initial scepticism around the new logo in particular, and how social media allowed MEC to quickly address customer sentiments.

Fuelled by the goal of getting social practitioners in Vancouver to connect and learn from one another, #CMHootUp was a success. As you can see from the video, the group enjoyed themselves over pizza, beer and healthy snacks.

If you missed the first one, worry not! We’re committing to hosting a #CMHootUp on a regular basis and each one will have a different theme. This past event kicks off a series of events for local community builders and social media/marketing professionals.

HootSuite wants to create a comfortable medium for you to meet others who share your interest in social and community from around the Vancouver. This way we can all learn from one another and build relationships so that we have people to lean on and bounce ideas off when needed.

You can expect the next #CMHootUp in late March. If you’d like to be the first to know about it, join the #CMHootUp mailing list (if you attended the first event, you’re already on the list).
