To make Instagram more accessible for users who are deaf and hard-of-hearing, the platform has introduced auto-generated captions for its IG Feed videos.
Automatically-generated captions are currently available in 17 languages and users will have the option to turn them on or off. A similar feature has already been available on IG Stories via a captions sticker.
The new auto-generated captions feature comes on the heels of recent news that Instagram is sunsetting In-Stream video ads and its IGTV app to place greater focus on video content within the main app.
The addition of captions will help Instagram keep up with TikTok, which introduced auto captions in the spring of 2021, as well as ensure that the platform is accessible to all users.
We’re excited to share auto-generated captions for IG Feed videos.
Adding captions makes Instagram more accessible for those in the deaf/hard-of-hearing communities🧏🦻. You will have the option to turn captions on (or off).
