In a recent Twitter thread, Instagram head Adam Mosseri shared an update on the company’s ongoing tests on public like count displays. Instagram started hiding like counts for some users in 2019, but put a hold on the project due to the pandemic.
“We’re testing a new option that lets you decide the experience that’s best for you – whether that’s choosing not to see like counts on anyone else’s posts, turning them off for your own posts, or keeping the original experience,” explained Moseri in a tweet.
The topic has been polarizing for Instagram users, which is likely why developers have chosen to leave the choice up to account holders. The company is testing a similar experience for Facebook, and plans to share more updates soon.
