Amid scrutiny, Senate Commerce Committee interrogations, and the decision to pause Instagram Kids, Instagram has announced plans to introduce a new teen well-being feature.
In an appearance on CNN’s State of the Union, Facebook vice president of global affairs Nick Clegg shared that the company is developing features that will encourage young people to “take a break” from the app and nudge them toward more positive content.
These notifications will trigger when Instagram’s systems “see that a teenager is looking at the same content over and over again, and it’s content which may not be conducive to their well being,” Clegg said. No date for tests or release of these features has been set.
