As part of Instagram’s ongoing efforts to attract more creators, the platform has introduced more subscription features.
Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, posted today that subscribers will now be able to access exclusive chats, Reels, posts and a home page.
“We want Instagram to be the best place online for creators to make a living and a really important thing to creators everywhere is sustainable income because at the end of the day, if you’re a creator, you’re a business. A great way to establish some sustainable and predictable income is through subscriptions,” Mosseri says.
Back in January, Instagram started testing subscription features with a select group of U.S. creators. Creators were able to charge anywhere from $0.99 to $99.99 a month to give followers access to subscriber-only Stories, Lives and Badges. In the latter case, subscribers would receive badges next to their name so they’d be more easily identifiable to creators in comments and DMs.
Instagram has decided to expand those features based on the feedback from creators who had early access.
Here’s how they’ll work:
- Subscriber Chats: Creators will be able to DM with up to 30 subscribers at a time.
- Subscriber Reels and Posts: Like subscriber-only Instagram Stories, creators will now be able to share exclusive Instagram Reels and posts. Mosseri says this was the most requested feature from creators.
- Subscriber Home: Subscribers will be able to check for exclusive content on Subscriber Home, a new feature that will appear on creator profiles.
