Instagram’s latest feature makes it even easier for users to share Reels with their friends.
According to an update shared in Instagram head Adam Mosseri’s broadcast channel, users in the US will soon be able to download Instagram Reels shared by public accounts.

It sounds like you don’t need to worry about people sharing your Reels without permission, either. Mosseri’s update noted that “Reels shared by private accounts can’t be downloaded and public accounts can turn off the ability for people to download their reels in Account Settings.”
TikTok has had a similar feature for years. In fact, you’ve probably seen your friends resharing their favorite TikToks in their Instagram Stories.
The download option is a great way to help creators get more reach. If Instagram follows TikTok’s lead and watermarks all downloaded content, it’s also a smart way to promote the platform.
