Lots of social media managers use AI to write a first draft. Then they copy it, open another tab, paste it in, and schedule it by hand.
Connecting Claude to your social media tool cuts out those middle steps.
In this guide, we’ll walk through how it works, how to set it up with Hootsuite, and where to keep a human in the loop.
Key takeaways
- Claude can do more than write posts. Connect it to your social media tool, and you can plan, schedule, and publish content right from the chat.
- MCP connectors are the easiest way to link Claude to your social tools. It usually takes a few minutes to set up, and no coding is required.
- Keep a human in the loop. Share your brand guidelines, limit what Claude can access, and review every post before it goes live.
- Hootsuite lets you bring your social work into Claude. You can check your content calendar, draft new posts, and dig into your performance data, all from the same chat.
You can use Claude to create or publish social media content on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, Twitter/X, and more.
There are two ways to do it:
- Claude writes, you post: Ask Claude to draft a caption or post, then copy it over and publish it yourself.
- Claude posts through a connected tool: Connect Claude to your social media management tool (like Hootsuite), and it can create, plan, and schedule content for you.
If you’re tired of the copy-and-paste dance, the second option is where things get interesting.
Do it better with Hootsuite, the all-in-one social media tool. Stay on top of things, grow, and beat the competition.
There are two common ways to connect Claude to your social media tools: MCP connectors and APIs. Here’s how each one works:
- MCP connectors: If your social media tool has an MCP connector, you can link it to Claude, grant permissions, and start working immediately.
- APIs: If you need something more customized, a developer can use an API to build a connection between Claude and your social media tool. This is the more technical route.
Most social teams will never need to touch an API. If your tool offers an MCP connector, you’re already most of the way there.
What is an MCP connector, in plain terms?
An MCP connector is a bridge between an AI assistant and another tool.
Normally, Claude only knows what you type or paste into the chat. Want its take on last month’s top posts? You’d have to dig up the numbers and copy them over yourself.
A connector skips that step. Link Claude to your social media management platform, and it can:
- Create social media posts
- Write captions and recommend hashtags
- Schedule posts in advance
- Pull your analytics and answer questions about how your content is performing
Setting it up in Claude.ai vs. Claude Desktop
You can use MCP connectors with both Claude.ai (the web-based version of Claude) and Claude Desktop. The setup is pretty similar:
- Open Settings, then Connectors.
- Find the connector you want, or click +Add and choose Add custom connector to paste in a remote MCP server URL.
- Follow the prompts to give Claude permission to connect.
- Open a conversation and start using your connected tool.
Claude Desktop can also connect to files or applications on your computer. That can be handy if your team needs Claude to work with local files, but it requires a different setup.
You can post to social media from Claude by adding Hootsuite as a custom connector. Here’s how:
- Open the Claude desktop app
- Add a custom connector
- Enter your Hootsuite MCP server URL
- Sign into Hootsuite with OAuth
- Ask Claude to draft, plan, or publish a post
- Review your content before it goes live.
1. Open the Claude desktop app
If you haven’t yet, install the desktop app from Claude’s official download page.
2. Add a custom connector
In Claude, open Settings, then select Connectors from the left-side menu. Click Add, then Add custom connector.
3. Enter your Hootsuite MCP server URL
Next, enter a name for your connector, then copy and paste the URL for the Hootsuite MCP server you want to use:
- Perch: https://mcp.hootsuite.com/perch
- Nest: https://mcp.hootsuite.com/nest
- Lumen: https://mcp.hootsuite.com/lumen
- Parliament: https://mcp.hootsuite.com/parliament
Click Continue.
4. Sign into Hootsuite with OAuth
Under Authentication, select Sign in now. Then, under OAuth client, select Register automatically. These options let you securely connect your Hootsuite account to Claude without any additional technical setup.
Click Add, then follow the prompts to sign in to your Hootsuite workspace and give Claude permission to connect. You’ll only need to do this once.
Pro tip 💡: If you’re managing multiple brands, make sure to authorize access to the right Hootsuite accounts.
5. Ask Claude to draft, plan, or publish a post
Now you can start using Hootsuite directly in Claude! Simply type a prompt describing what you’d like to do, whether that’s drafting a social post, finding an opening in your content calendar, or scheduling content around high-engagement windows.
6. Review your content before it goes live
Before anything goes live, review Claude’s work to make sure it’s accurate and on-brand. Once it’s scheduled, you’ll find it right in your content calendar.
What can (and can’t) this integration do today?
There’s a lot you can do with the Hootsuite-Claude integration, from planning your next post to digging into your social data. However, you still have to ask Claude to do the work. It won’t quietly run your social accounts in the background.
What it can do
- Plan your next campaign. Ask Claude to brainstorm campaign ideas or map out content for an upcoming launch.
- Check your content calendar. See what’s already scheduled, spot gaps, and find room for a new post.
- Draft and schedule posts. Turn an idea into a finished post, prep it for publishing, and update your posting schedule.
- Dig into what people are saying. Ask about brand mentions, sentiment, or what your competitors have been up to.
- Make sense of your numbers. Pull your social performance into the chat and ask follow-up questions.
- Manage customer conversations. Work through incoming messages and draft replies.
What it can’t do
- Work on autopilot. You can ask Claude to schedule a post for a future date, but it won’t wake up tomorrow, check what’s trending, and publish something new unless you ask it to.
- Bypass your approval process. Claude follows the same permissions and approval workflows your team already uses in Hootsuite. So if a post normally needs a sign-off, it still does.
- Replace human review. Someone on your team should still check every post for accuracy, compliance, and brand voice before it goes live.
Hootsuite isn’t the only way to post from Claude. You can also use other social media management platforms or build your own workflow with an automation platform.
Social media management platforms (Hootsuite, Buffer, Metricool)
These tools are built for planning, scheduling, and publishing social content. Connect one to Claude, and you can go from a rough idea to a scheduled post in the same chat.
Before you pick one, check how it connects. Some platforms (like Hootsuite) offer a ready-made MCP connector, while others need more setup.
Meet the Suite
Understand what matters, decide what to do next, and take action across every social workflow — all from one connected suite.
Automation platforms (Zapier, Make, n8n)
Automation platforms take a different approach. Instead of connecting Claude directly to your social media management tool, you can build a workflow that passes information between Claude and other tools.

Say your team publishes a new blog post. You could build a workflow that sends it to Claude, has Claude turn it into a Twitter thread, and then adds that draft to your social media scheduler.
The trade-off is setup time. These tools are flexible, but you have to map out every step yourself.
The biggest risks are losing your brand voice, letting AI act on its own, and sharing more data than you meant to. Here’s how to keep each one in check:
Drifting from your brand voice
Whether you’re known for witty one-liners or a death-metal tone à la Liquid Death, your audience expects a certain personality from you.
The trouble is that AI tends to sound like everyone else on the internet.
To help it sound more like you, feed the AI assistant your brand guidelines, plus examples of content you love. Then, build an extra step in your social workflow to review its output before anything goes out the door.
Letting AI act without human oversight
Imagine your AI assistant responding to a frustrated customer with a chipper, emoji-heavy message — or publishing a lighthearted post during a sensitive news event.
These are the kinds of situations where human judgment matters.
“The more outward-facing or higher-stakes the task, the more I’m involved,” says Melina Giorgalletou, Content & Social Media Manager at Supernormal. “Anything that goes public, involving a person, or representing the brand needs my sign-off first.”
Exposing sensitive information
Your social accounts hold more private information than you might realize. Think: customer names, order details, unreleased campaigns, and so on.
Before you connect anything, check what the connector can access and where that data goes. Only grant the permissions Claude actually needs.
And if you’re in a regulated industry, run the tool through the same compliance review you’d use for any other tool.
Hootsuite connects Claude to four of its apps: Perch for planning and publishing, Nest for customer conversations, Lumen for social listening, and Parliament for employee advocacy. Link one (or all four), and you can handle a big chunk of your social work without leaving the chat.
Publish and plan with Perch
Perch is Hootsuite’s content planning and publishing app, and it connects directly to Claude.
Say it’s Monday morning and your content calendar is looking a little bare. Ask Claude to draft a few posts for the week using the assets in your content library. Then edit, approve, and schedule them, all from the same chat.
Once your content is out in the wild, ask Claude how it’s performing. It can pull results from every social media platform, no report-building required.
Check your inbox and respond with Nest
Nest keeps your comments, DMs, and customer conversations in one inbox.
When messages are coming in faster than your team can answer them, Claude can help you sort through the pile, figure out what needs attention first, and assign conversations to the right people.
It can also draft replies using your team’s saved responses, then help you close out issues once they’re resolved. (A person should still give those replies a read before they go out.)
Pull insights and trends with Lumen
Lumen is Hootsuite’s social listening app. It gives Claude access to your real listening data, so you can ask about sentiment or trends and get up-to-the-minute answers.
It’s especially handy when something suddenly takes off. Is that spike in mentions a moment worth jumping on, or the start of a crisis? Claude can help you figure it out fast.
Share brand content with Parliament
Parliament is Hootsuite’s employee advocacy app. It gives employees a hub to find brand-approved content they can share on their own social profiles.
With Claude connected, employees can ask what’s available to share today and get a list of posts from their Parliament topics. They can pick something relevant, share it to a connected profile, or schedule it for later.
Can Claude post directly to social media?
How can I use Claude to automate social media posting?
Once connected, you can ask Claude to draft posts, find open spots in your content calendar, schedule them during high-engagement windows, and track performance metrics like engagement rate.
Is it safe to let an AI assistant post on your behalf?
Can Claude write social media content that sounds human?
Then give every draft a human edit. The more Claude understands your brand and content strategy, the less its output will sound like generic AI copy.
Does Hootsuite integrate with Claude?
Depending on which connectors you add, you can ask Claude to plan and schedule posts with Perch, manage customer conversations through Nest, or explore real-time social intelligence with Lumen. You can also use Parliament to find and share employee advocacy content.
Bring your social workflow into Claude with Hootsuite. Plan and publish content with Perch, manage customer conversations with Nest, uncover trends and insights with Lumen, and share brand-approved content with Parliament — all without leaving the chat. Try Hootsuite free today.
