#HootTip: Filter by Keyword and Klout in #HootSuite

Hoot Tip of the Day The busy Owls at HootSuite HQ are continually adding and refreshing the many features of the dashboard. There are so many ways to use HootSuite for monitoring the social web, we don’t want you to miss a thing! To keep you up to date or simply jog your memory, here is a new #HootTip all about a handy HootSuite feature.

Drill Down With Klout and Keyword Filters

Millions of updates are posted to social networks every day. How can you find the time to sort through the chatter for users and Tweets that are relevant to you, your business or your social campaigns?

HootSuite has you covered; track relevant topics and focus on profiles of interest using these time-conscious tools:

1. Filter by Keyword

Filter by keyword to conveniently cut through unrelated results and focus on a particular user or topic. This is ideal when monitoring specific subjects and even prospecting for new customers.

For example: If you are working for the Vancouver Tourism Board, you will likely set up a search stream monitoring for mentions of “Vancouver”. Focus the search and filter by keyword. This is an effective way to drill down into the pre-existing search stream for a specific term.

Here’s How:

  1. Click the arrow icon on the top right corner of a column to access a dropdown menu.
  2. Select the “Filter by…” funnel icon.

  3. A yellow bar will appear at the top of the column. Select “Keyword” from the Filter box and enter your keyword.
  4. To remove the filter, simply click the x button to the right of the yellow bar.

2. Filter By Klout

Klout scores are an influence metric that provide a measurement of a user’s social reach. Filtering your home feed or search column with Klout is a quick trick for prioritizing which followers to engage with during busy campaigns.

Here’s How:

  1. Click the arrow icon on the top right corner of a column to access a dropdown menu.
  2. Select the “Filter by…” funnel icon.
  3. A yellow bar will appear at the top of the column. Select “Klout Score” from the Filter box and slide the toggle bar to filter Tweets based on a specific score.

These features are some of the many tools we’ve included based on your feedback. Help shape the dashboard with your next idea! You can send suggestions to our Feedback forum.

Stay tuned for the next #HootTip – they’re short, sweet and re-Tweetable so you can share your HootSuite expertise with your friends and followers. Some lucky RTers may just find themselves with a #HootKit… It’s our way of saying “Thanks for spreading the word.”

Can multiple keywords/phrases be entered in same place to achieve "OR" function. Or, if I add multiple filters will that accomplish an "OR"?

Is it possible to do the opposite? Instead of including tweets with some keyword, kept them away. For example, if im not interested in some topic?

Hi PaBloX,

Great feedback! Currently that feature isn't available in the dashboard but you can suggest it on our Feedback Channel. Users can then vote up your idea or suggest their own.
